On September 25th, my father’s house in Sarasota, Florida, caught fire after his AC unit malfunctioned and ignited. The fire spread quickly through the gutters and into the attic, severely damaging the roof and causing destruction throughout the house. The firefighters did everything they could to stop the blaze, but in doing so, they had to soak the entire home. Now, in addition to fire damage, the house is flooded, with destroyed walls and ceilings, and a large hole in the roof, which had just been repaired a year ago.

We’ve spoken to a restoration company, and they estimate that it will cost several hundred thousand dollars to restore the house — and that doesn’t even include the cost of fixing the roof. Unfortunately, my father does not have the funds to cover these extensive repairs. To make matters worse, a hurricane is expected to hit Sarasota tomorrow, leaving us with very little time to secure the home from further damage.
